Collective Investment Schemes were established in Greece in 1972. National Bank of Greece and Commercial Bank of Greece created the first 2 Mutual Funds. The elaboration of the necessary legislative framework had been completed earlier by virtue of legislative decree 608/1970.

Portfolio Investment Companies are closed-ended fixed capital funds, listed on the Stock Exchange. They were first established in 1972. Their legal framework is defined in law 3371/2005.
R.E.I.C.

Real Estate closed-ended funds in Greece take the legal form of a Real Estate Investment Company R.E.I.C. The REIC is a special type of a Societe Anonyme (SA) company (a Greek stock corporation). Its exclusive purpose is to manage an asset portfolio consisting of real estate (mainly), securities and cash.
